Association of Independent California Colleges & Universities: Thomas Vu
Thomas Vu is the Vice President for Policy for the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU). The AICCU is the organizational voice for the state’s independent, nonprofit colleges and universities and strengthens these institutions by providing leadership, collaboration, governmental advocacy, and public engagement.
Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education: Leeza Rifredi
Leeza Rifredi is the active Deputy Bureau Chief, for the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (Bureau), under the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). She has been the acting Deputy Bureau Chief for a little over 4 years, where she assists the Bureau Chief, overseeing the day-to-day executive operations of the Bureau and its 7 units.
CalGovOps: Joy Bonaguro
Joy Bonaguro serves as the Statewide Chief Data Officer and is part of the Government Operations Agency (GovOps). The mission of GovOps is to improve management and accountability of government programs, increase efficiency, and promote better and more coordinated operational decisions.
California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office: John Hetts
John Hetts is the visiting executive in research and data for the California Community Colleges. He is also the senior director of data science at Educational Results Partnership and is a member of the Multiple Measures Assessment Project (MMAP) research team, the California Guided Pathways Advisory Committee, and the statewide AB 705 implementation workgroup in California. Hetts is also a Complete College America fellow and a California Educational Policy fellow.
California Department of Education: Cindy Kazanis, Sarah Neville-Morgan, and Mary Nicely
Cindy Kazanis is the Director of the Analysis, Measurement, and Accountability Reporting Division for the California Department of Education (CDE). The CDE oversees public education for the State of California. The Division serves as the primary source for educational data which is made available to the public through the CDE’s data reporting website, DataQuest, and is responsible for overseeing school and district accountability through the California School Dashboard and the School Accountability Report Cards.
Sarah Neville-Morgan is the Deputy Superintendent of the Opportunities for All Branch (OFAB) for the California Department of Education (CDE). CDE oversees public education for the State of California. OFAB embodies the whole child approach and helps all students—from infants and toddlers to adults—to fulfill their goals by supporting teachers, early educators, school and district leaders, and community based organizations while celebrating diversity and embracing inclusion and multi-lingualism before, during, and after school.
Mary Nicely is the Senior Policy Advisor to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI) at the California Department of Education (CDE). She oversees the Superintendent’s Initiatives Office, coordinating the initiatives and programs of the SSPI as well as other CDE activities.
California Department of Social Services: Natasha Nicolai
Natasha Nicolai is the Chief Data Strategist for the California Department of Social Services (CDSS).
The CDSS is responsible for the oversight and administration of programs serving California’s most vulnerable residents.
California Department of Technology: Brenda Bridges Cruz and Tim Murphy
Brenda Bridges Cruz serves as the Deputy Director of the Office of Professional Development (OPD) for the California Department of Technology (CDT). The OPD oversees workforce development across the state’s information technology workforce. Tim Murphy serves as an Architect for the CDT. The CDT is responsible for advising the Governor on the strategic management and direction of the state’s Information Technology resources.
California Labor and Workforce Development Agency: Jeanne Wolfe
Jeanne Wolfe is the Assistant General Counsel for the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency (LWDA). The LWDA enforces workplace laws, combats wage theft, ensures health and safety on the job, connects Californians to quality jobs and career pathways, and administers unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation and paid family leave. LWDA oversees seven major departments, boards, and panels that serve California workers and businesses by improving access to training, promoting high road jobs, eliminating barriers to employment, and creating a level playing field for employers.
California School Information Services: Amy Fong
As Chief Operations Officer, Amy Fong leads the California School Information Services (CSIS) in its mission to build local capacity in support of effective pupil information systems. CSIS encourages regional leadership in cultivating local best practices, increases transparency in state use of local data, and builds a variety of tools and modern software to serve the larger statewide educational data ecosystem, including CALPADS (California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System).
California Health and Human Services: Elaine Scordakis
Elaine Scordakis serves as the Assistant Director of the California Office of Health Information Integrity (CalOHII) for the California Health and Human Services Agency. CalOHII is responsible for ensuring applicable California state departments are compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other related state and federal laws.
California State University, Office of the Chancellor: Ed Sullivan
Ed Sullivan, Ph.D. is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Institutional Research and Analyses for the California State University (CSU), Office of the Chancellor (CSUCO). The CSUCO oversees the 23 campuses of the CSU, educating 482,000 students every year. He oversees Institutional Research and Analyses that provides information, research, analytical services, data analysis that support evidence-based decision making, strategic planning, and management of statistical and historical student data records at the CSU.
California Student Aid Commission: Patrick Perry
Patrick Perry is the Division Chief of Policy, Research, and Data for the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). As Deputy Director and Division Chief, Patrick oversees and directs the policy, research and data governance functions of CSAC and directs and manages the Division of Policy, Research, and Data. He is responsible for developing and implementing financial aid policy by conducting research on program effectiveness and financial aid and financial aid administration.
California State Board of Education: Sara Pietrowski
Sara Pietrowski serves as a Policy Consultant for the California State Board of Education (SBE). She supports the SBE’s work of developing an integrated local, state, and federal accountability and continuous improvement system.
Commission on Teacher Credentialing: Michele Perrault
Michele Perrault is the Director of the Administrative Services Division of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The CTC serves as a state standards board for educator preparation for the public schools of California, the licensing and credentialing of professional educators in the State, the enforcement of professional practices of educators, and the discipline of credential holders in the State of California.
Employment Development Department: Amy Faulkner
Amy Faulkner is the Chief of the Labor Market Information Division (LMID) for the Employment Development Department (EDD). The LMID provides workforce and economic information to help customers better understand California’s economies and make informed decisions. The EDD enhances California’s economic growth and prosperity by collaboratively delivering valuable and innovative services to meet the evolving needs of employers, workers, and job seekers.
University of California, Office of the President: Chris Furgiuele
Chris Furgiuele is the Director for Institutional Research and Planning (IRAP) at the University of California, Office of the President. IRAP provides evidence-based analyses and reports that inform and shape strategic planning, institutional policy creation and revision, and decision support.
